I have read a book by Atlanta film producer Will Packer titled “Who Better Than You? The Art of Healthy Arrogance and Dreaming Big.” In his book, Will tells comedic and inspirational stories on his journey to success. The main idea he preaches is “healthy arrogance” which is a sufficient confidence in yourself and your abilities to be able to achieve great dreams and goals and that those goals are destined for you and no one else. Packer tells the readers to dream in rich color and to know that these dreams are great and they deserve to have them. Reading this book became the inspiration for this sax quartet you have here today titled “Magnificence.” The title itself is a colorful dream. It was a goal for the piece and not exactly a story to tell. My dream was to make something magnificent. Something that pulls from many genres and inspires others to dream big, work hard, and celebrate themselves.

Vibrancy is inspired by anime opening themes. It inspires the listener to dream in vibrant color. It inspires to imagine, to create with confidence your most ideal goal and your most vibrant life. Unstoppable Force is inspired by epic rock music. The journey to reach your grand goals is a tough one that likely requires consistent work. It also may take one making certain moves that no one else would. The ones that are the most relentless in their endeavors will likely find themselves on the path to achieving their dreams. Dreamer is inspired by Samuel Barber’s Adagio for strings along with video game music. This ethereal movement inspires the space to dream and imagine. Who Better? Is taken straight from the title of the book mentioned earlier. It is a book about celebration for yourself and what you are capable of. This thrilling closer takes inspiration from gospel music. Yes, it is a praise break. We forget to celebrate ourselves and appreciate all that we have achieved or will achieve. I hope this final movement and the piece as a whole helps more people dream big and take action knowing that they themselves are surely capable of achieving them and more.

Yes, you, for now and forever are magnificent.
